Comments regarding the school reunion of 2002

This was my first reunion since I left DuBois in 1953.
What a treat it was to meet all the old-timers still left.  It was exciting to see how successful they all were.
The one theme I noticed throughout was the bragging right of having attended this great Institution of Learning and how the experience prepared everyone to "Aim High!"  I was very impressed with the way things were set up and the wonderful food and camaraderie we all shared.  The Class of 53 had a good turnout but we would have liked to have seen more of our Brothers in attendance.  We're all looking forward to 2003 for our 50th Graduation Anniversary.
I understand there's some speculation and that it's not going to happen because of the uncertainty of having the same facility available but thinking on the positive side hope we all make it again next year.
Thank you again for all your efforts to make this such a success.

Sincerely,
Donald J. Greeley, 53

Thanks for all the great work you do in organizing the reunions.  My wife and I totally enjoyed the reunion of 2001 and were planning to attend the 2002 reunion until the date changed and it was too late for us to change our plans.   We live in California.  I would think that others have been affected by the date change and lowered the attendance and perhaps the enthusiasm.  I know that it was unavoidable and I am not being critical but simply passing on my opinion.   I look forward to attending reunions in the future and seeing good friends that I rarely get to see.
Best regards,

I attended the 2002 reunion.  From my class (1972) only 3 of us were present.  Robert Wenhardt and Gilbert Garcia.
The turnout was indeed rather poor, nothing like the 2201 reunion.  Nevertheless, we had a good time reminiscing.   Gilbert came from Oregon were he currently lives and took time to visit family on the east coast.

This was the first year that I attended the reunion and based on what I had read about them in the past and talking with people who had been to the previous reunions it would certainly appear that this one was not as successful.
I was very happy to meet up with people from my graduation class (1967) who were there and that was my expectation so I was not disappointed.
A few of us had said we would start trying to find some of our old classmates and get a much better turn out the next time.
I think if we make that attempt it will make quite a difference at the next reunion.
It was also suggested that we may skip 2003 and have the next one in 2004.  This certainly is an option and will give us a bit more time to get in touch with classmates in time.
I would also like to extend my thanks to those who did so much work in making this event happen.  I feel guilty that I couldn't help more.

Rick Fay - Class of '67

From my standpoint it was unsuccessful in general.  There were only two other graduates from my class there.
Fortunately for me, they were two guys I used to hang around with.  It would have been more meaningful had more members from my class shown up.
I also feel that there should be more than just a cookout.  Some event that ties in all the graduating classes would be fun and appropriate as well as an ice breaker.
With that said, I would consider attending next year's event (should there be one), if changes were made to the existing reunion.

I agree, I do not think that the last reunion was as successful as last year's.
Suggestions:
Get some of the wives involved.
Make a committee of about 10 people to plane for the next reunion.
Have them less frequently. Every two years.Every five years. ??
Have mini reunions. I would like to get together with all the guys that graduated in '62.
Get some of the Brothers that taught at Dubois.  I have been in touch with to Brother Hugh Turley( Br. Alphonsus).

Regards,
John Febles

On the contrary, I thought it was a good reunion and Fr. Healy's homily underscored the theme of the widespread effect of the Dubois education in our lives.
Looking forward to next year's.

It was my first reunion.  My wife Ellen and I had a great time.  I was disappointed that I was the only representative of the class of 1968.  Where were you guys?
I want to thank you for having us and I hope it continues.

THE TURN OUT WAS LESS THEN LAST YEAR.  OUR CLASS, 1965, HAD 3 ATTENDEES.  THE OLDER YEARS THE 1950'S HAD A GREATER NUMBER, AND I'M SURE THAT'S BECAUSE THEY HAD 5, 10, 15 YEAR REUNIONS, BEFORE I EVEN GRADUATED.  I KNOW THAT FROM THE FIRST ONE I ATTENDED 2 YEARS AGO I RECONNECTED WITH A CLASSMATE, JOHN THEOBALD, I PROBABLY HADN'T SEEN SINCE 1967/1968.
MY WIFE AND I ARE ATTENDING A CHRISTMAS PARTY AT JOHN'S HOME TOMORROW.
I WANT TO THANK YOU, FATHER DRISCOLL AND YOUR COMMITEE.
I LOOK FORWARD TO HEARING ABOUT THE NEXT ONE AND I DO CHECK THE WEB SITE PERIODICALLY FOR UP DATES.

A comment from your webmaster and fellow Dubois man:

Well as you can see from reading the above, those of you who have not attended a reunion have nothing to fear, more so you have so many friends that you probably forgot about them after such a long time.
It appears that the older classmates are much closer than the younger ones.  Who says you can't teach an old dog new tricks!
We share a common bond embedded into us because we attended Bishop Dubois!
Prepare yourselves and make the time necessary for the next reunion.
Maybe we should think about renting the gymnasium at the school for the next one???
